Focus on TV & Film Fire Safety

02/01/2024

Fire safety within the TV & Film sector can be very challenging as the environment in which the fire protection equipment is situated can require change according to the risks associated with the filming project and schedules. Choosing the right fire safety contractor can also be tough.

Since 2004 we have individually had experience in the TV & Film sector being involved in the fire safety measures with various TV & Film studios including the Batman Begins Gotham City set in the early 2000's through to current projects in 2023.

When assessing the studios we had to install equipment which would be able to extinguish most types of fires but also ensure that equipment being used for filming would not be unnecessarily damaged if the fire equipment was to be discharged

Within the last three years we have been involved with brand new TV & Film studios in Buckinghamshire. We surveyed and installed fire extinguishers in four large studios & workshops together with installing their fire safety signage and testing of fire hydrants which had to be installed due to the sheer size of the site.

When assessing the studios we had to install equipment which would be able to extinguish most types of fires but also ensure that equipment being used for filming would not be unnecessarily damaged if the fire equipment was to be discharged. All of the fire equipment installed was positioned in fire extinguisher cabinets to ensure nothing was damaged as film sets usually involve large equipment which can damage fire extinguishers when moving around the studio. Should the production company filming require any fire equipment over and above the studio provision we could supply accordingly.

The fire safety signage installed throughout the TV & Film studios had to be installed according to the size of the building and distances as its absolutely imperative that people within the building would be able to see their way out of the building in the event of a evacuation.

Fire Hydrant testing was carried out to ensure that the site was satisfactory for the requirements of water supply in the event the fire brigade was required. We also supplied the signage for each hydrant and painted the covers for maximum visibility.

Security is a huge issue within the TV & Film industry especially when it comes to them choosing which contractors to use for their projects

We also hire fire extinguishers to TV & Film companies who require fire equipment for the duration of their projects. When it comes to fire extinguisher hire we usually take instruction from the TV & Film companies fire risk assessment as to what equipment is required.

Security is a huge issue within the TV & Film industry especially when it comes to them choosing which contractors to use for their projects. We have absolutely no issues at all with signing and strictly adhering to the requirements of Non Disclosure Agreements. This gives our clients satisfaction that we can go about our business on site installing or servicing their fire safety equipment with the confidence that anything we see or hear relating to the project will be not disclosed by us to anyone.
