Professional Fire Evacuation Drills for Businesses Across Bedfordshire & the Home Counties
🧯 Annual Fire Evacuation Drills
Regular fire drills are a critical part of demonstrating fire safety compliance and ensuring occupants know exactly what to do in the event of a real fire. Kings Fire provides professionally managed bi-annual fire alarm drills, overseen by a competent fire risk assessor, with full written reporting and clear, actionable recommendations.
Our service is suitable for commercial, industrial, educational, residential and managed premises across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and the wider Home Counties.
⚠️ Why Fire Drills Are Required
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Responsible Person must ensure that employees and relevant persons are provided with appropriate fire safety training, including evacuation procedures.
Current UK fire safety guidance recommends that:
Fire drills are carried out at least once every 12 months for most workplaces
Bi-annual (twice-yearly) fire drills are strongly recommended for:
Higher-risk premises
Buildings with sleeping accommodation
Sites with high staff turnover
Larger or more complex buildings
Regular drills help to:
Test the effectiveness of evacuation procedures
Identify issues with fire alarms, exits, signage or staff response
Demonstrate compliance with your fire risk assessment
Improve staff confidence and response times in an emergency
Fire drills should be planned, observed, recorded and reviewed, not treated as a tick-box exercise.

Fire Evacuation Drill FAQs
How often should fire evacuation drills be carried out?
There is no single frequency prescribed in fire safety legislation, but fire drills are generally expected to be carried out at least annually and may need to be carried out more frequently depending on the premises, occupancy, staff turnover and findings of the fire risk assessment.
Are fire evacuation drills a legal requirement?
The Fire Safety Order requires appropriate fire safety procedures, training and, where necessary, fire drills. Fire drills are an important way of testing whether evacuation arrangements work effectively in practice.
What does Kings Fire assess during a fire drill?
Our assessor can observe the response of staff and occupants, evacuation times, use of escape routes, fire alarm audibility, emergency exits, assembly point arrangements and the actions of fire wardens or fire marshals. Any areas for improvement will be recorded within the report.
Do you provide a written fire drill report?
Yes. Following the drill, Kings Fire provides a written report recording observations, evacuation time, any deficiencies identified and recommended corrective actions.
Can Kings Fire activate and reset the fire alarm during the drill?
For existing Kings Fire fire alarm servicing customers, we can normally coordinate activation of the fire alarm and ensure the system is correctly reset following the drill. For non-contract customers, the Responsible Person or site team will normally be responsible for activating and resetting the system.
Should all employees take part in a fire drill?
Fire drills should be arranged so that employees are familiar with the evacuation procedures relevant to them. Where a premises operates different shifts, more than one drill may be necessary so that staff working at different times have an opportunity to participate.
Can fire drills be carried out outside normal working hours?
Yes. Fire drills can be planned around operational requirements where appropriate. However, drills should also be carried out under realistic occupancy conditions so that evacuation procedures, staff response and fire warden responsibilities can be assessed effectively.
Can Kings Fire carry out fire drills for non-contract customers?
Yes. Kings Fire can attend and assess fire evacuation drills for one-off and non-contract customers. In these cases, the Responsible Person or site team will normally operate the fire alarm while our assessor observes the evacuation and produces the formal report.
